這一代建築師又或所有人都有同一場人生變幻。Arne Jacobsen 更甚，他出生於丹麥，但有猶太人血統。二戰納粹逼害猶太人，逼於無奈，丹麥反抗軍幫助，划小艇逃亡至鄰國瑞典，侍待了兩年，1945年戰後回國。

大師級人物通常都興趣多多，視野很寬，風格常常大變。當他們專注一件事，一貫會一直發展發揮。自1950年，Charles Eames 對拍攝125格式短片發展濃厚興趣，同時其他設計項目也開始減產，1960年起只專注拍攝短片及承傳事業等工作。由1950年至1982年止，拍攝了多部作品，最著名的，是為《冪函數10》（Powers of Ten；下方視頻）。此短片分別拍了兩次，第一次於1968年拍攝的黑白版本，1977年重拍彩色版本。短片概念來自荷蘭教育家 Kees Boeke 的《宇宙的角度》（Cosmic View），從一個俯瞰角度拍攝，由離地一公尺拍攝一公尺範圍的一個人，鏡頭向後移動，拍攝實像。移動速度為每一個十秒，拍攝多十倍的景像，直至宇宙邊緣，然後掉轉向前推進。不同的是這次鏡頭會俯衝直至一夥碳原子！ Continue reading →

Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) 與早期的建築師、設計師的故事大概相同，父親是藝術家，母親是音樂家。父親名字叫 Victor Prouvé，是亞爾及利亞移民到法國，時歷新藝術運動的藝術家，成為該運動的重要一員。受父親的新藝術思潮薰陶，Jean Prouvé 已植入藝術與工業必須結合，才能貢獻社會。 Continue reading →

Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) 全名為 Arne Emil Jacobsen，與前述的建築師或設計師不同，他的父母並非工匠或建築有關的職業出身。不過，經父親鼓勵，他選擇朝向成為建築師之路。先當建築工匠學徒，及後入讀皇家丹麥美術學院的建築系，師承建築師教授 Kay Fisker 及 Kaj Gottlob，畢業後獲 Poul Holsøe 受聘，開始建築師之路。 Continue reading →

Harry Bertoia (1915-1978) 生於意大利，是著名雕塑家，後期轉型專注聽覺藝術 (Sound Art)。十五歲那年，毅然選擇到美國底特律，找兄長 Oreste，與他生活。先後於當地就讀 Cass Technical High School 及 Art School of the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts，主修手作手飾工藝。命運使然，獲獎 Cranbrook Academy of Art 的獎學金，遇上他的伯樂及創作伙伴，有 Walter Gropius、Edmund N. Bacon、Charles Eames、Bernice Alexandra Kaiser 及 Florence Knoll。

Charles 及 Ray Eames 設計及量產的傢具，生產商 Herman Miller 一直以來以為只屬 Charles 的作品，所有銷售目錄的 credit 只給了 Charles。後來，傢具生產及銷售商 Herman Miller 才了解，沒有了 Ray 的功勞，也沒有1941年以後的 Charles Eames 的設計面世。所以，今天世人均會說明那些傢具設計，是 Charles 及 Ray Eames，又或直接稱 The Eameses。 Continue reading →
