“Beauty doesn’t come when it’s pursued. Flowers, stones, the blue sky, the mountain – all natural things are created with a purpose, right? So first we must pursue the truth – its usefulness, and whether or not it is beautiful comes as concomitant. It’s most regretful that what we call ‘industrial art’ in Japanese pursues beauty first and considers usefulness secondary. To pursue beauty as priority, then hope that it’s also useful – that’s a mistake. In such product there is no beauty.” – Isamu Kenmochi
