George Nelson (1908-1986) 是位出眾設計師，也是現代主義設計的一眾設計師的伯樂。他身職 Herman Miller 家俱生產商的設計總監，邀請眾多出色設計師身與 Herman Miller 合作出品無數膾炙人口的家俱。

一場大雨，滂沱大雨，令這世界大戰結束，亦可令一個設計史改變。George 本身不特意讀修讀耶魯大學的建築系，他走進耶魯大學遇上暴雨，避走建築系大樓，看覽就讀生的建築作品。之後，便是現在的設計史。繼 1928年取得建築學士，1931年再獲藝術學士。畢業後十年間，George 專職建築雜誌編輯，專訪過所有當時得令的建築師。直至 1945年，他獲邀任職 Herman Miller 家俱生產商為設計總監。他們的合約定明合作方式自由，George 可自由接受外間工作。兩年後，George 更在外開拓自己的設計工作室，繼而於本 1955年成立 George Nelson Associates, Inc.，使用公司這品牌吸納人才，出品「George Nelson Associates」名義的設計。就任過 George Nelson Associates 的設計師無數，包括 Irving Harper、George Mulhauser、Robert Brownjohn、Don Chadwick、Bill Renwick、Suzanne Sekey、John Svezia、Ernest Farmer、Tobias O’Mara、George Tscherny、Lance Wyman 及 John Pie等。然而，現代對 George Nelson 的評價不一，主要評他將眾多合伙設計師的功勞，全歸公司，而公司名稱只有 George Nelson 的份兒。盡管如此，他的審美觀是不能取代，及對生產開發力的展現都不容小覷。要不，George 都不會被選中，任 Herman Miller 的設計總監，發揮他對整合設計與設計程序的功夫。

Irving Harper (1916-2015) 仍這張「棉花糖雙坐椅」的主設計師，於十七年任職 George Nelson Associates 期間，出品無數。1963年，Irving 與 Phillip George 成立 Harper+George 設計事務所。1983年，Irving 退休，居住紐約。

“No design can exit in isolation. It is always related, sometimes in very complex ways, to an entire constellation of influencing situations and attitudes. What we call a good design is one which achieves integrity – that is, unity or wholeness – in balanced relation to its environment.” – George Nelson

不袛一次，這裡介紹的經典作品斷然是科技帶動。今次，有一間長島的塑膠製造廠，向 George Nelson Associates, Inc. 介紹新產品—12吋直徑的圓形泡泡棉。Irving Harper 被指派設計用此泡泡膠製坐椅。一星期後，Irving 都是現代主義設計師，設計了十八個圓滿形泡泡棉的“Pop Art”雙人長坐椅，以乙烯基塑料包裹每個圓形泡泡棉，用簡單金屬支架造成長椅，排列那些包裹了的泡泡棉而成的坐墊背墊。

然而，第二個要求卻不能達。那就是，要製作簡單及價格適度。Irving Harper 的想法點子，回想除非用布料包裹，萬萬都無能達成價格適中。他設計的這個製法，只可以人手續一包裹，十八個包裹工序可不少呀。

「棉花糖雙坐椅」當年只生產百多張，大多寬 52吋，少部寬 103吋。現今，這張雙座只作限量製作及發售。
